jerusalem: a cookbook

I constantly browse 101 cookbooks, by Heidi Swanson. Her recipes are always fresh with a nod to global influences. And this morning while browsing for recipes, I stumbled upon a post she did about the cookbook Jerusalem. I've seen this cookbook before and never picked it up because I had no clue what Jerusalem-eque food is about. But, i'm heading out the door to buy it now, because Heidi posted a delicious looking Fattoush recipe that has my mouth watering.

Fattoush is basically the best kind of  salad because it incorporates a lot of naan or pita. The recipe is a bit more involved than most salads, but it looks absolutely worth it. You can find the recipe here.

Nothing is better than a cookbook with a lot of beautiful photos.

Holiday Recipes: Gingerbread

I love Heidi Swanson of 101 cookbooks. She's published a two great cookbooks and runs an awesome blog chocked full of healthy eats.  She is also a photographer and avid traveler who loves Mexico probably as much as I do.
Her Mexican recipes are to die for (the crema corn and agua de jamaica are spot on).
Anyways,
when she posted her "Black Sticky Gingerbread Recipe" it looked too good not to share:

Doesn't that look like the perfect wintery treat!

*Side note: I don't think I've ever had homemade gingerbread*

Home Cookin'

Since I've been home, Brittany and I finally have been baking/cooking. Last night we made a baklava galette.  It was delicious and nutty, with an frangipani cream underneath the pistachio filling

Tonight we bucked up again and made a home cooked meal, black bean burgers with homemade whole wheat rolls.

It was equally delicious, although we had to forgo dessert because the baklava galette mysteriously disappeared after one day!
