What I've been up to

Sorry for the lack of posting! I've had a couple of early mornings & late work days! I thought I would share my 6am ferry ride to Bainbridge Island(which I am currently sitting on) instead of the typical Wanderlust Wednesday post! So please excuse my lack of posting :)

Hope you all had a beautiful Spring weekend. The sun peeked through the clouds a few times for us in Seattle, but for the most part it was cold and grey...I can't wait for some warmer weather! 

This weekend we went to one of the new micro breweries popping up in Ballard.  It's called the Peddler Brewing Company, because you can literally bike into the brewery and have a beer. I didn't try the beer (not a big beer fan), so I can't vouch or not if it was any good. The space is awesome though, and they earned enough money to open it through a Kickstarter campaign.

Sunday, we headed to the farmer's market. The broccoli and asparagus were the most beautiful shade of purple!

We also wandered over to Discovery Park and walked along the beach while the tide was out. Brian poked at everything from a dead dungeness crab to a barnacle.

Sorry for the belated weekend post...I started watching The Forsyte Saga last night in an attempt to cure my longing for Downton Abbey.  Speaking of TV shows, have you watched Homeland yet!? I know there was a bunch of buzz about the TV show during the Emmys (because it literally won everything), but it is totally worth watching!  The show is suspenseful and it is hard to stop from watching the whole season in a sitting. The weird thing is, we started watching Homeland a couple of weeks ago and the main red head actor is also the protagonist in The Forsyte Saga (which is also worth watching if you love Downton Abbey and all things Masterpiece Theater).

Ok enough about TV shows! Here is our weekend around town via my iphone:

The popsicle stick is not the only weird thing about the building that holds my new job. The building was designed to represent batman...it has two black peaks and looks straight out of gotham city!

 

Friday was uneventful and we made up for that on Saturday. I finally tried the much talked about sammies at the Other Coast Cafe and a new San Pellegrino flavor, pommelo. 

We also crashed a little kid birthday party (we know him) and it was awesome. They had confetti
filled eggs that you could smash on people!

We finished Saturday with a drink at Essex, the bar situated right next to the great pizza restaurant, Delancey. Both are run by Molly Wizenberg and her husband, the bloggers behind Orangette. 

Sunday it was a southern breakfast with friends at Bitterroot and then we wandered down to the Ballard Pizza Company for the "Toss like a Boss" competition. They brought in Pizza chefs from around Seattle who competed in categories like thickness, width, and generally tossing abilities. It was awesome, there were score cards and all you can eat free pizza. 

seattle sessions 2: weekend recap

Last week was my first full week at my new job and its been an adjustment figuring out how to manage a blog at the same time. So until I master that, posts will be a little light. But know that I read each and every comment and love them! 

Because we don't have time to travel the world at the moment, I channel my inner gypsy into food!  So onto our weekend...we ate a LOT of amazing food and tried an amazing new restaurant in Seattle.

Below is a homemade arugula salad with toasted almonds and lemon-vinagarette, my new favorite.

Thursday night we dined at Revel, in Fremont. They describe their food as Korean street-comfort food and it is absolutely fantastic! 

The space is pretty small and most of the seating surrounds a giant bar right off of the kitchen. 

We had five different dishes, including a laksa hot pot and a vegetarian rice bowl with a kale almond trail mix. I was in heaven. 

After finishing off a delicious meal we headed to the launch party for Makerhaus, a new artist space, where you can pay on a monthly basis to use their tools and equipment (3D printers and the works!). The best part of this collaborative space is for entrepreneurs, who get to work in an awesome space amongst others. 

Saturday I made homemade arugula pizzas and watched Argo (finally). It was so intense and good!

Sunday morning we cooked up a giant homemade fritata, curtesy of 101 cookbooks.

Sunday we lunched at Uneedaburger in Fremont. That is seriously the name and it is delicious! I had a veggie truffle burger that was just oozing a truffle cream!

Hope you all had a great weekend as well, filled with either a lot of traveling or a lot of great food, or even better, both.

 Sounds like most of you had a pretty wet week last week as well, so I hope you had some sun over the weekend! We were definitely lucky in Seattle and had a crisp, sunny weekend! Here is a batch of photos from our weekend...Brian gave me a holga lens adapter for my dlsr, so I took advantage of the bright winter light to try out my new lens!  We also made a killer homemade pho found from on Kitchn.  You have to try it out because it is the perfect remedy for these chilly evenings.
