Travel Tip Tuesday: Credit Card Air Miles

I realized while researching credit card hacks for airline miles, that well, I am nowhere near an expert about this. As I tried to formulate something interesting for this post, I really couldn't even touch the great content other blogger's have out there. So in lieu of content, I created a graph based on 2012 best airline credit cards

*One of the basics is to go with a credit card that gives you a lot of bonus miles upon sign up and then cancel before that annual fee (unless you love the card of course). But be wary of opening too many credit cards, I recently read that your credit goes down 2-5 points for every card opened. Whether that is true or not, I have no clue.

There are a lot of different tricks and tips out there if you want to fly for free, and using an airline credit card is just one of them. If you want to do some reading and get lost in the topic, I definitely suggest checking out:

The Nerd Wallet (who ranks the British Airways Visa Signature Card as the #1 card. I didn't include it in the graph but it is worth checking out)
Frugal Travel Guy (who also loves that British Airways Card)

And to keep track of all those Airlines miles, hotel points, etc there is a great site called AwardWallet.com

  1. We have a Citibank card tied to their ThankYou network and it has been amazing. The fee is $72/year, but every year we use it to fly to Hawaii for free. One year we used it for a hotel for a week in Paris. And before that we used it to fly to Rome & back. The fee seemed high at first, but the benefits have far outweighed that cost.
