road trip day 7: illinois to michigan

We spent the morning soaking up the feeling of a roof over our head and free wifi. We wandered outside of our bed and breakfast around 10am and walked over to Damen street to explore more of Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood. It was still as charming as our first impression of it.

After checking out of our hotel, we hopped in the car for a few hours until we crossed the border into Michigan.
We stopped in New Buffalo and had our first look at Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes. Our jaws dropped at the sight of it. We both have never seen a lake that looks exactly like an ocean! We were shocked to see white sand beaches at the water's edge, along with sand dunes and warnings about currents and rip tides! We were thrilled!

We could definitely live in Michigan for a while, although maybe only during the summer months.

We decided to stick close by and rented our first campsite of the trip at Warren Dunes State Park.

All in all, we drove less than 100 miles today.
