Road trip day 2: Montana

Day 2: Butte-Bozeman-Casper, Mt

Day two got off to a really chilly start but the farther east we move through Montana, the warmer it gets! For the most part though Montana is under a blanket of snow. It's beautiful but I definitely couldn't live anywhere that gets snow by the beginning of October!
Around lunch time we took a pit stop in Bozeman. I love Bozeman and this will be my third visit to this little hippie enclave. We visit Bozeman's awesome food co-op and stock up in enough organic food to get us through North Dakota.
We also went on a quick hike outside of town in the East Gallatain Recreation Area. If you are ever in Bozeman,  be sure to visit Revolv'r, it is a well-curated Men's clothing shop that topped any we've visited in Seattle, and they give you free beer while browsing, which is a bonus!

By the end of the day we've driven a total of 200 miles and are still no where close to the border of North Dakota.

Roadtrip day one

Well we've done it! We finally took off on our grand USA roadtrip! For the most part we are booking it over to Maine to catch the fall colors . By booking it I really mean driving 55 the whole way because that's as fast as our motor home allows. We took off last Friday from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and made it to Butte,  Montana.  The journey took us about five hours. Once we made it to Butte we found ourselves a cozy little Walmart & went to sleep. Driving through Montana is gorgeous any way you go,  but we were facing snow and 20 degree nightly temperatures, so we didn't want to press our luck and stay in Montana longer than what it takes to drive straight through!

wanderlust wednesday: the resort at paws up

Do you guys watch The Bachelor? I do, and this season is a train wreck! But, in honor of The Bachelor's little Montana visit, I thought I would share an awesome resort just outside of Missoula.

The Resort at Paws Up is a luxury ranch resort situated on a 37,000 acre working cattle ranch. They offer beautiful private cabins and glamping tents, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg ( $1,035 per night to be exact...one can dream).

It's definitely on my bucket list to go "glamping," but for now I have to resort to camping in the "Nugget," our 1970's motor home.

Wanderlust Wednesday: Big Fork, Montana

Located in Northwestern Montana, Big Fork is a tiny town that sits at the heart of the Flathead and Swan Valleys.  It is only an hour away from Glacier National Park and minutes from Flathead Lake.   My good friend Hannah has a huge family compound a few minutes outside of Big Fork and is pretty much a local. When I asked her why people should visit Big Fork, this was her response:

"Top Reasons to Visit Bigfork"
1. The Garden Bar (an awesome outdoor bar with live music typically on Friday and Saturday).
2. The Wild Mile Trail, along the river

3.  Big Fork Summer Playhouse, great local theater

4.  All the wonderful locally made jewelry and art galleries

5.  Sake to Me Sushi- delicious (owned by a really cool couple who run it in the summers and take off for SE Asia in the Winter)
6.  Every summer they have an amazing art festival7.  Every Memorial Day weekend they have a whitewater festival where kayakers race down the craziest mile of the river
8.  The people. Everyone in this town is extraordinarily nice-Montana hospitality at its finest.
While we were visiting Big Fork last weekend we noticed field after field of bright yellow flowers. I still am not sure what they are...

One of Hannah's good friends from Big Fork (part of the sushi duo that takes off in the winters) also sells handmade headbands, which we asked to model on Saturday. I was a little lot hungover, so I was definitely not up to par with the other models!
The headbands are awesome and would be perfect once the weather takes a turn for the worse!
You can find them at Plethora
If you haven't been to Montana, I definitely recommend a trip, just the scenery alone will leave you speechless.

Happy Friday!

Hope everyone's week went as fast as mine did! I'm heading to Big Fork, Montana today for a bachelorette/girls weekend! I am excited to head into Montana and am hoping between the mimosas and tanning, we can sneak in a good hike!

Speaking of hiking, I am reading Wild, by Cheryl Strayed. It is a book about the author's life and coming to grips with her mom's death while hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. I love it so far, and i'm not far from purchasing some boots, and heading out into the wilderness. Happy trails my friends!
