road trip day 40: savannah, georgia

Savannah wasn't quite what we expected. It was small and paled in comparison to Charelston. Nevertheless, we did find some excellent southern food. If you are ever in Savannah, eating at Mrs. Wilke's Dining Room is a must! We waited outside in line for about an hour before being seated at a table with 12 other people. On the table was over a dozen southern dishes, from collard greens to creamed corn pudding. After passing around each dish and making friends with our table mates, huge piles of fried chicken start emerging from the kitchen. And I am not exaggerating when I say huge! These plates were piled high with fried goodness. We ate, and ate, and ate, washing down the meal with extra-sweet tea.

We fell in love with the huge live oaks and spanish moss that are everywhere in the South. Savannah is no exception. The trees here add an ethereal and hauntingly beautiful feel to this southern city.

After rolling ourselves out of the small dining room, we reunited with the Nugget and drove to Boreum Cemetery, which we heard was hauntingly beautiful and one of the creepiest cemeteries in the South.
